Declined Offer – Interviewed in New York, NY Feb 2013 – Reviewed Apr 28, 2013
Interview Details – The entire hiring process was extremely quick. The first step is a 10 minute phone interview, where they ask very straightforward questions of why you want to work at yelp, and why you want to work in sales. After that is either a skype or in person interview. Because I am away at school, I did a skype interview. The entire thing took 1.5 hours, and I spoke to three separate sales managers. They ask you basic sales questions, and then each of them make you do a sales pitch. The first one asked me to sell yelp to a pizza owner who is resistant to yelp, the second was to a store owner who has already made it clear that they don't have the funds to buy, and the third was a product of my choice. I conveniently had my camelbak water bottle next to me so I sold that. I found out a week later that they were doing a background check, and then two days later got an offer.
Interview Question – What is a negative quality that your friends and family would describe about you that you would say is false? Answer Question
Reason for Declining – I came very close to accepting the offer, and was looking forward to working there starting this summer. However, I got another offer that I just couldn't pass up.

Following an initial application submission Yelp will contact you in order to schedule a preliminary phone interview. Once you have scheduled your phone interview you will receive a second email clueing you in on what the phone interview will entail.
The recruiter I talked with in the phone interview asked fairly straight forward questions. What do I know about yelp, what product would I be selling, what do I visualize as the day to day tasks of the position, how would I deal with customer rejection; these were the bulk of the interview questions.
Easy interview, however, I did not receive an invitation to a second interview. I believe your delivery of the necessary information is the most important factor in this interview. If i were to interview again I would trim the fat on my delivery and relax a bit more.
Interview Question – How would your react to being turned down by leads or potential clients? Answer Question

Initial contact and e-mail very pleasant.
Phone interview not so pleasant.
Extremely arrogant interviewer, negativity, rude, unfriendly. Displayed no interest in getting to know my credentials or my talents
I knew within no time, i would not move forward
Interview Question – No difficult question, just pure arrogance on part of recruiter his tone was a complete turnoff. 101 sales- ability to join with client, this guy failed big time. A big disappointment! Answer Question

Phone interview, lasted 10 minutes, asked about my background and why I was interested in Yelp and cold calls
Skype Interview with three different people who all did role playing. Asked to sell your favorite product, another question asked how would you tell someone about yelp and the ad program, get them set up with an appointment. Another question asked to deal with someone who was resistant and how you would get them to say yes to a sale.
They give you feedback after each person and make sure you remember the feedback bc they will ask you.

The first step is a phone interview. They send you an email with sample questions, and those are the key questions. What is yelp's product, how does yelp advertise, etc. The answers are right on the website they provide, it's very straightforward. This step is a screen to see how you sound on the phone and if you're actually interested in the position. If they like you, they will schedule the next interview during this phone conversation.
My in-person interview had three different components. I met with a Manager, who had me do an initial role play like I was calling a pizza company. He then provided feedback. Remember the feedback! They ask you in every step what your feedback was the round before and how you felt about it. The next interview, with another manager, escalated the role play scenario. She gave me an example where the client was going to turn down Yelp in favor of newspaper advertising. She gave helpful feedback and had me try the call again. Again, LISTEN! They were very friendly and did their best to help you through the process. My final interview was with a recruiter, who asked me about my experiences and role play feedback. She explained pay scale, growth opportunities, and asked why I was interested in the job. There's lots of cold calling, so be prepared to say why that attracts you.

Interview Details – It was poor. They use telephone interview to screen applicants. Then if you are successful you do a face to face interview. The issue is they hire anyone.

No Offer – Interviewed in New York, NY Dec 2012 – Reviewed Jan 15, 2013
Interview Details – I applied one week and within the next week I received an email to do a phone interview. The phone interview was basic, although I couldn't not hear the lady very well as I am assuming she had me on speaker phone - which would have been nice to know. I didn't enjoy the experience as I feel she was rushing me.
Interview Question – She asked "How would you sell our product?" I thought this to be difficult because I don't see ad space as a product. I thought she could have worded her questions a little bit more direct. Answer Question
Declined Offer – Interviewed in New York, NY Jan 2013 – Reviewed Jan 10, 2013
Interview Details – You first get an email to set up a phone interview and then they asked me when I could come and have an in person interview. You are interviewed by 3 different people, they were all very nice and the atmosphere there was very laid back, I wasn't nervous at all. They each go through asking you questions about why yelp, past experience, what you want to do with your life, positive sales qualities you have, etc. Then they each role played with me 2 different scenarios. You need to listen to the feedback you are given because they will ask you specific questions about that. The role playing was fun, just make sure you know a lot about the company and remember to make sure you either set up a meeting with the "potential client" or close the deal.
Interview Question – Sell me this phone (it was an office phone that was sitting on the desk) the interviewer definitely made it difficult to do View Answer
No Offer – Interviewed in New York, NY Dec 2012 – Reviewed Dec 23, 2012
Interview Details – Well first off, the make the whole entire job seem like its going to be much more glamours when you first start speaking with them, than it actually is. I first got contact by a recruiter who set up a brief phone interview with a man who called me on time, but then seemed very rushed and asked some basic questions that anyone could answer correctly, That should have been my first sign right there. So after being invited to have an in person interview, which they sch for three weeks after, for a training class to start a month after that, I decided I was not working and to go for it! I met with three people who all appeared friendly, two out of the three then asked me to sell there services to someone over the phone, mind you I do know a bit about yelp but no not how there sales approach works, or the cost of advertising etc. They give you what they think is good feed back and you are to take it with you to sell the final girl the phone on the desk. I have over four years of strong sales experience and they did not e xtend me a job offer, which I thank thank thank my lucky stars on, bc I did not want to be cold calling businesses 100+ times per day, and from what I had heard go into work everyday not knowing if I would get fired. Not getting a job offer at Yelp was the best thing that came out of this interview!
Interview Question – drawn out interview process. sell yelp advertising to a pizza owner who has already said no more than once. Answer Question
