Don't forget about precedence when implementing this solution. For example, cases 1 & 2 can simply be evaluated from left to right, but case 3 needs to first have the * operator evaluated followed by the + operator.

Isn't this the basic example of expression tree? Form the tree according to the precedence of the operators. Leaf nodes would be the actual numbers.
