Interviewed Nov 2011 in Frankfurt am Main (Germany) (took a day)
Applications were accepted via postal mail, and was a complete dossier of CV, cover letter as well as certificates and reference letters, German-style. After one-two weeks, the company called the applicant to set up an appointment. The interview consisted of a prearranged presentation topic about standardized language testing, where the interviewee was asked to analyze choices he/she made of test type and topics. It took place in a small office room at telc headquarters, in the presence of the head of the test development and one of the English test writers. The atmosphere was more or less conservative, in the appearance of interviewers as well as the appearance of the company offices, although telc says it operates on a "flat hierarchy" model. Although the job tasks required fluency in English, speaking German was essential and would be the language of office communication. It seemed that interviewers would favor older applicants in their thirties or forties as opposed to younger ones. Interviewers also were not forthright, and tried to insinuate facts from interviewee (personal background etc, experience) rather than ask direct questions. Office space arranged in cubicles, and generally pleasant with a lot of natural light. Recommendations: speak freely rather than rely on the interviewer to direct you with questions.
