Most management tries to protect you from other departments. This is a good sign of decent middle managers.
For the most part you get to know just about everyone at one point or another
    Pays a good wage
Very good benefits, except for 401k

There are very clear levels of employees and depending on what section of the company your in will determine your standing and influence regardless of your ideas or initiatives.
A Senior Director in a non-sales or engineering department can be over-ridden by an engineer or sales person, albeit in a roundabout way.
There seem to be only a few good VP's that understand the company is best when it works together, most just blindly follow their employees in mostly bad decisions.
I hate to say it, but the CEO is an engineer and he pretty much always sides with engineers and sales. All other departments be damned. You can see it in the structure, there is no management above Senior Director in any other side of the business except Sales and Engineering and Marketing. Sales and engineering have so many VP's sometimes the title means nothing while Marketing has one, Operations, HR, IT etc have only senior Directors.

    Advice to Management

Stop being a rubber stamp for engineers and sales, pay attention to the portions of the business that actually keep the business running.
Give credence to other sides of the business, a well functioning business is essential to future growth as well as employee productivity and moral.
