I worked at ABB full-time (More than 3 years)
ABB is a good company to work for, for awhile. The pay is decent and there are benefits, health insurance, 401K, etc. but they were only adequate, not the best. Limited chance of promotion, and then only after years of employment. Layers of management make it hard to get anything done.
Coming from a company that ABB bought and shut down had distinct disadvantages. Management always looked down on the "new" people and the "ABB way" was the ONLY way to do anything. When I had ideas for improvement, they would be shot down immediately, so I just didn't try anymore. My first two years, I didn't have a desk or phone. I was moved around to different conference rooms. It took a year to get a laptop computer like everyone else.
Advice to Management
Don't treat people you bring in from other plants like a pariah. They may have some good (money saving) ideas.
