    Pros

Working in cellular can be extremely rewarding, personally, professionally, and especially monetarily. If you're good with people and electronics, this job is heaven! You get to help people make tough decisions in an ever changing market, find solutions for their needs (some they didn't know they had), and make their lives better with every sale! At least, that's a good day.

    Cons

It's a sales job. At the end of the day, you need to remember your metrics are everything to the management. It can be a little soul crushing being a number, but it's the way these jobs are. Unfortunately, in my time, I saw more and more individual metrics appear without much support from management in maintaining all of them at once. The company wants one thing boosted, everything else suffers, and it becomes a balancing act on a canoe. (Careful not to capsize!) As a result, it can be very stressful at times, especially since not every customer is happy to see you. The key is turning those disgruntled frowners into happy customers, and nailing sales in the process. It's a delicate balance and it can be frustrating until you get the right groove going. Even then, you're bound to hit some bumps along the way.

    Advice to Management

Try and reduce the number of individual metrics front liners are trying to hit. It seems like middle management shifts goals in reaction to squawking in the boardroom about this goal or that goal, without really supporting the sales reps at the base level. Training programs are really helpful for getting on top of devices, but there are metrics a lot of sales reps struggle with. U-Verse takes finesse and charm to sell, or a whole lot of luck. When the Retail Connections Management channel was downsized because the company hit the minimum attainment they were looking for, it became a matter of sink or swim, and not every store had great reps to train newbies on how to get it done. That's just one example of how focusing a single metric and abandoning it can look good on paper, while it drowns your front liners who struggle with attainment goals. Turnover is high, and sales is all about being able to handle the boiler room, but it's my opinion that you're shooting yourselves in the foot. The foot you stand on, by the way.
