    I worked at AT&T full-time (more than 5 years)


    Training, hourly+commissons and benefit are great. Work life can be great (for a retail position) with the right manger/area director.


    It is so easy to get written up for many things including not meeting quotas. Doing the right thing, being honest about coverage and not selling to customers whom live in a less than great or no coverage area will only get you in trouble. Quotas become more and more ridiculous as time goes on. Management will do Ops (sales) in some reps ID's, usually the same rep which is unfair to the others. Over the five years I spent with AT&T I was faced with lack of fairness on many levels and had to contact my local Union rep on several occasions.
    Some stores hire relatives and family friends which is against policy, yet overlooked by area manager's as long as they are looking good to regional management. Working your way up the chain is unlikely and it seems a majority of management has never worked AT&T retail which should be mandatory.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Work in retail for 3 months without special treatment and get a feel for how it is. Don't hire friends and family. Don't overlook slamming customers just to meet quotas so you don't look bad in front of your boss(es). I realize money (supporting family) is an issue and we all don't have the luxury of quitting based on how we are treated by upper management. Try not to take out your frustrations on sales reps/support. Try not to let upper management bully you. Try to take time to yourself, relax and center before coming into work. Realize when reps are doing their best. Be fair across the board to both customers and employees.
