    Solid company

    I worked at Accenture

I like how the company is very non-eccentric. It's very process driven, and the processes are well defined and well refined. This means you are unlikely to be under the jurisdiction of one person's cult of personality. The company thrives on best practices. So it's unlikely you are going to get stuck working for someone who is "way out there."

The road never goes away. So if you are an on-the-road consultant, you can't work your way out of this. The partners travel almost or just as much as their consulting subordinates. Accenture's motto is "High Peformance. Delivered." The key word here is "delivered." This is not a critique of Accenture per-se; it's a simple fact of life for a consulting firm of this nature. So you may graduate up in pay and levels, but you don't graduate away from the road. It's something to think about if you can't stand travel or have small children.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consultants often request to be staffed locally. But it's a tough economy, so the partners are going to want to staff the most competitive team in order to win the business. This may mean sending consultants frequently on assigments that require plane travel and overnight stays. It's important for the consultants to remember that the partners at Accenture are bidding on jobs; they are competing against other firms. So they want to put a team in front of a potential client that looks very strong to the client (i.e. one that fits their needs very well in terms of domain expertise and experience level). On the other hand, you don't want to have high leave rates from consultants due to never-ending out-of-town assignments. It's a tough balancing act.
