Generally a decent place to work, but sometimes inconsistent and sometimes dry.

I worked at Aerospace Corporation full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

I had pretty flexible hours and I did experience some manner of promotion while I worked at Aerospace. I was given a pretty good degree of autonomy working on various tools for rocket simulations, and given responsibility in working missions and in presenting to those managing the programs. Working launches was sometimes interesting, as was developing new tools to increase the simulations power. Made a couple friends, and found it to generally be a pleasant atmosphere, even under deadlines. Longer days or shorter days as needed (within reason), and took advantage of the 9/80 schedule. They let me save up vacation time and take a three and a half week vacation to Europe, and sick days were not an issue.

    Cons

Work itself was fairly dry, what with it being independent analysis. And some directives were unclear or poorly thought out - I was assigned to work on a tool to improve the simulation, and after two years of it seeming without point it was cut. I was encouraged (pretty much told) to get my M.S. to continue my job, and it was implied that I would receive a promotion and a decent raise. After earning the degree, the promotion came, but late and with a disappointing raise compared to what I had come to expect. This must have been to do with the budget, as I was laid off along with a few hundred people a few months later. None of those were above a certain seniority level, though. I received a decent severance package, but it still stung to find out later that those who were eventually hired to fill the gap I left were starting at a higher pay than I had left with.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be clear about expectations concerning promotion and career path. Attach actual value to merit for both staff and management.
