    Lack of strategy
    Inability to simply define what we will or will not do
    Grey area creates blood baths

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Answer these questions:

    What is our brand?
    What products add value in the eyes of the customer?
    Do we (senior management) embody the same level of accountability that is expected in operations?
    What is our talent acquisition strategy? Talent development strategy?
    What is the difference between success and failure?
    How can we further standardize and simplify operations? How then might we reengineer and refine processes?
    How can we improve our reporting systems?
    Are we generating any data? Should we generate more? How can we leverage the data?
    How can we share knowledge?

    Action:
    Cut the menus. Drive favorable customer demographic.
    Invest in facilities
    Challenge the team
    Flatten the architecture
    Communicate scratch kitchen in the brand
    Invest in marketing capability (social, viral)
    Get chefs in dining room
    Integrate training into IT, aggressively control or risk losing brand identity
    Inventory talent
    Invest in talent
    Shape beliefs by following through, thus shaping action

    Understand that the decisions you make impact people you will likely never meet. THEY are Copelands.
