I worked at Alcoa full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Very decent health and 401k package. Company allows 'flex' schedule to allow for doctor appointments, etc. The dress code was a nice pair of jeans and a nice tee-shirt (could dress up if you wanted to)

    Cons

Biggest challenge of working at Alcoa Howmet Logistics was the inept management. The management in place is nothing more than figureheads. They will nod and smile and always refer you to someone else. They also do not take responsibility or back up employees as needed. Management does not recognize good employees and they do not recognize bad employees. They cross their T's and dot their i's and uniformly ignore every single situation that arises. The other big con of working there is the drama. People are not supervised and are allowed to get away with anything that they want which makes it a very gossipy, uncomfortable working environment. 'Troublemakers' and safety issues are ignored by management and so problems are allowed to grow and grow and keep growing.

    Advice to Management

Get management that actually has management skills and not just a degree. Listen to employees and Observe situations and interactions between employees. Happy and fairly treated employees will be a giant asset to your organization, so make employees happy and treat them fairly. Also, either be a part of casting plant or be your own entity. Sharing responsibilities and resources (like HR, Finance, etc.) with the casting plant are not working and just confuse issues more. Also, the casting plant cannot fairly judge employees that they see and speak with less than once a year.
