I have been working at AlliedBarton full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Its a job that is either good or bad depending on who is your client, who is your manager, and what site you are stuck at. Great part timer's paradise if you are in school other than that it is worthless.

Union sites get great healthcare benefits and unions help to really infuriate our managers and corporate people, which is always a happy situation to hear about when you are a guard.

    Cons

Low paying customer slav-it-ude job. They will not pay you more for having a college degree. They will not pay you more for having previous security experience. They will not pay you more for having military experience. Why you might ask? Well because at Allied Barton their guards are all useless to them and they could care less which BODY fills the position as long as it doesn't cut into their profit margins.

Clients, manager, and AB never on the same page as to what constituents a real security threat, risk, or issue. Thus it is almost an impossible mandate to keep our many masters (clients, customers, owners, law enforcement, judicial officials, managers, or corporation) happy. And all of our many masters want a say in how things should or shouldn't be done, and no consideration whatsoever is ever given to the security officer as to how things can, should, or should never been done. This becomes so frustrating that over time most officers don't care anymore how anything is done.

We become time cruncher who just want to do our time and leave. Thus the whole security concept gets thrown out the window for most officers after six months.

We have managers and corporate heads who show up at our sites once every two years to spew vile Allied Barton propaganda at us. Literally had managers who wear our (FAKE Badges) on their belts like their some real detective, or who will bust them out of wallets, and the worst managers are the ones who act like being a security guard is the same things as being a hero or superman. Disgusting, untrue, and so misleading it make my ears and eyes bleed. I had a manager tell me that he loved wearing the uniform everyday, that it was honorable, and that he loved it; yet, I didn't see him or his mid level managers wearing this so loved and honored uniform. Guess Allied Barton has not heard the phrase "actions speck louder than words," because I certainly have and after being lead down so many times by Allied's words I only watch their actions, which are usually few and far in between. Plus most of these managers have zero people skills or tried and true blue blood skills. They usually have no military experience either which doesn't gain them much respect from me. They also don't have any understanding or care what takes place at the site level.

Promotions are not a reality here unless you want to move two states from the one you live in. Also transferring to a different site is a hassle that Allied Barton will not go threw. Reinforcing how little they care about "us". There is little to no hands on training, the online training stuff is all hot air, and their is zero local support for security officers. Benefits for non-union sites far to expensive. Company moral nation wide is poor. I have hear that we are losing many contracts and sites, so growth is limited.

I could go on forever but I am going to cut it short at that. Stay away from this industry it doesn't value your time or efforts.
