    Pros

If you want to be involved with consulting in the mess that is the Healthcare industry, this is a decent place to go and learn exactly what the industry is up against. You'll either find yourself appalled or you'll see it as an opportunity to secure a "job for life". It's basically like having a government job because everything is driven by regulation. One difference at Altegra is you won't be working government job hours. Like any consulting business, it's all about billing hours. The pressure to bill hours can vary. But generally, there's enough to do that meeting your quota shouldn't be a problem--as long as you can take the cons (see below). And compensation was fair. And if the corporate environment doesn't work out, you'll have an opportunity to be an independent consultant. The healthcare consulting arena is just growing so fast as a result of constantly trying to keep up with the regulatory environment. So if you dream of being an independent consultant, this can be a good jumping off point.

    Cons

It's healthcare... and the industry is a MESS!! And it's unlikely to get better any time soon. The work is BORING! It's not the fault of the company, it's the regulation. The hoops that clients are forced to jump through that consultants assist with are a necessary requirement for those businesses--even though they arguably do absolutely NOTHING, and add no value beyond helping the client "check the box" for the regulations. So if you want meaning in your work, I'd suggest looking elsewhere--in other words, NOT the healthcare industry. There's not much meaning in the work healthcare consultants do. The work isn't hard, and it become mind numbingly redundant. I couldn't take it anymore. But many employees stay for decades. So there's security there, and the salary is fair. But don't expect to change the world. You're basically a government employee.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't oversell to prospective employees what you do. You're not changing the world. You're helping clients check a box. There's money to be made in that. And someone has to do it. There's really nothing more beyond that. And that's OK.
