I worked at Alum Rock Union Elementary School District full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The kids and their families; starting salary higher than most other places in the Bay; (mostly) caring teachers and staff

    Cons

Took 2 years to negotiate a 1-year contract; 1st and 2nd year teachers laid off (excessed/non-re-elected) every year due to budget constraints since charters are moving in, yet some district personnel making lots of bank for reasons unbeknownst to me; admin did not want sped students mainstreamed; some schools get more funding than others (e.g. iPads for a new school); some schools do not teach science and social studies for their test scores

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please think about what's best for the kids in every decision
