Current Employee - Administrator  in  Chicago, IL
Current Employee - Administrator in Chicago, IL

I have been working at American College of Surgeons full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Longevity - If you can deal with the micro management element.
    Benefits - Comprehensive
    Staff - Amiable
Hours - Flexible, great place to work if you are in school or have a family.

    Cons

Managerial - The directors at the top can make irresponsible decisions that can effect your job security. There seems to be no checks and balance system and those at the top run a dictatorship, which creates an atmosphere of distrust, fear, and discontent.

Managerial - Upper staff members work on a micromanagement scale that is hard to deal with. You can be very good at your job, competent, and they will micromanage EVERY little thing you do.

No Room for Advancement - Most employees get their experience working there, and move on to different institutions/companies within 3-5 years.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

No checks and balances - that needs to stop. Company should work on being fair to their dedicated employees so that more of them can stick around, rather than scrambling 2-3 years later to find jobs at other places.
