I worked at American Express full-time (More than 10 years)

Benefits, competitive salary, great people and company. Very diverse and accepting of all people. Work life balance in most department is very good. The company encourages balance but some departments it can be more difficult certain times of the year (i.e. finance).

Reorganization is much too often. I know they say this benefits the company but it doesn't benefit the employees that are displaced from their jobs. There are opportunities to post for other positions and out placement assistance but it is still a blow to the person that is being displaced. Unfortunately, sometimes decisions are made in a silo and not very good decisions.

    Advice to Management

Make a better effort to find out if it is truly warranted when a job is eliminated by a department. Ask the people in need of the service and not just the leaders.
