    I have been working at American Express full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    - great brand name for your resume
    - great office location (in NYC)
    - workforce diversity

    Cons

    - mid-level mktg salaries are below the industry average (management has known this thru consistent employee feedback for years but choose not to do anything about it)
    - often it feels like a high school again (if you are not hanging out with the popular kids but just a smart and hardworking "nerd", you can forget about promotions and other recognitions)
    - promotions are rare and often from outside the team. if you are applying for a job posted on the company website, you're already too late for the party. the candidate is slated behind the scenes and early in the game. the posting is just for compliance reasons. even as internal candidate you often have no chance to pitch for the position leaving you wondering what's wrong with me if I didn't even get a first round interview? and it's unheard of that someone, even a long-time high-producing employee. would be approached by the management with a promotion offer. unless you spend at least 30% of your work time cruising and schmoozing with the right people, fuggedaboutit!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Stop elevating self-promoting self-serving attention-seeking back-stabbing job-hopping fake-smiling career-makers. Look for and nurture real gems, who are loyal to the company and their team, producing real results year after year.
