I worked at American Lung Association full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Non-profit work is hard, demanding, but also rewarding. Doing good for those dealing with respiratory ailments is a very good for the soul.

    Cons

This dysfunction of the executive management team, including the executive board and newly on-boarded CEO, leaves a lot to be desired. Compensation is much lower than most non-profits and raises are never given out. Workloads are heavy and recognition for hard work is rare for most of the staff throughout California. Staff is also treated in unevenly, rewarding slacker employees with promotions and raises.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop tolerating behavior from higher ups that drives valued staff members away. Fire the whole exec board, including the CEO and start over again. Change the work culture so you remove those who are ineffective in the organization. Stop ignoring those on staff that are poison to the org. Move ahead of the National organization that is behind the times and dragging in their re-org of plans and policies.
