    I have been working at American Psychiatric Association full-time


    -fabulous benefits: great vacation/comp/sick leave policy, 401k matches offered, good work/life balance with flex hours or schedules available, occasional work from home

    -valuable work and mission

    -great office location (and views!)

    -staff has great longevity and there are lots of fun and interesting people to meet and call your colleagues


    -confusing employee appreciation and value: great benefits for employees as stated above, but otherwise saying"we value our employees" but not showing it through respect is confusing

    -like many, if not all, associations the pace of change can be slow, but complicated due to changing leadership each year

    -advancement within the company often requires switching departments, not following the same career path (maybe a con, maybe a pro). And, when these opportunities arise, the increase in potential salary earnings is capped, and may be lower than the same position would pay if hired an external candidate (this is one of the very few flaws /downsides to the APA's benefits and compensation packages)

    Ps. James H Scully Jr, MD is no longer the CEO, so the company is still doing some conversions to the new CEO. Though it's been nearly a year, so we are on the downside of that and things have significantly settled down
