I worked at American Red Cross full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

You get to help save lives.

    Cons

I've never had a sales job with so many limitations...ie. no staff available, no trucks, no available dates.
Equipment left off truck, collection staff call-outs, late starts, poor customer service make it really hard to retain your accounts and keep the donors coming back to donate blood. To many issues that are totally our of your control.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Quit talking to hear yourself talk. You're MANAGEMENT. Act like it. Look at where the dollars and cents are going down the drain and start making your collections staff incentivized on collections. Your hourly collections staff are milking the clock, raping the company, have poor attitudes and this is only reinforced by inadequate management. Quit blaming others and clean collections house! How many honest, hard working, positive and motivated people will you burn through before you admit there's a problem with your collection staff attitude!?!?
Don't take my word for it. Start sending in "secret shoppers" to grade your staff. Watch how they interact with donors, coworkers, etc. SOMETHINGS GOTTA GIVE OR IT WILL BE MARKETSHARE.
Be the change you want to see.
