    I have been working at Amtrak full-time for more than 5 years


    1. Work-life balance (keep in mind that not all departments allow this)
    2. Better-than-average job security (as of the date of this review)
    3. Free or discounted train travel (personal and business) for employee and immediate family
    4. Just implemented performance-based bonuses (contingent upon meeting net loss reduction and customer satisfaction goals set by senior management)
    5. My compensation based on my job description exceeds my expectations


    1. Silos - makes cross-functional team projects extremely challenging
    2. Accountability - Amtrak has stated in its long-term strategic plan to hold its departmental functions more accountable in regards to budgetary spending, but there is still a very long way to go
    3. Benefits - retiree benefits (pension and retiree medical) could go away in the near future
    4. Politics and agendas that cascade from Congress and the FRA do impact Amtrak's culture
    5. Overlap and Redundancies in administrative processes negatively impact performance goals and efficiencies

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Stay the course with the strategic plan. Enforce integrity and accountability by removing anyone that stands in the way of progress (regardless of tenure at Amtrak or railroad experience). Silos need to be torn down and all Amtrak functions should strive for company-wide organizational goals. We need to work together!
