I worked at Apogee Medical full-time (Less than a year)
Decent pay. Nice facility for such a small town.
The employer had unrealistic expectations for a new employee. I was a Nurse practitioner with 15 years experience, but I was away from the bedside for a while attending to other issues in my life. I was expected to act independently, without any appropriate orientation to the position. They have absolutely NO protocols for NP's to follow. Instead I was told to prescribe to Up to Date, and The Washington manual as my guide to practice. I made two errors in my admission orders, and I was literally yelled at by two separate physicians in the middle of the ED, where I have Never worked before. The physicians of this company are over-loaded themselves with huge caseloads. Each one of them would benefit from having a NP to be assigned to each of them. There will be a day when a patient will be harmed or worse by this practice. Avoid at all cost!
Advice to Management
Set up a complete set of protocols, and provide a resource physician to call when your NP's need someone to bounce off a question to without telling them that the NP should know the answer already. New NP's need a FRIENDLY ear when they seek guidance. One who is supportive and encouraging. The physicians of this company are over-loaded themselves with huge caseloads. Each one of them would benefit from having a NP to be assigned to one of them. There will be a day when a patient will be harmed or worse by this practice.
