Former Employee - Medical Technologist  in  Salt Lake City, UT
Former Employee - Medical Technologist in Salt Lake City, UT

I worked at Associated Regional and University Pathologists full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

As a medical technologist, I felt like I was at or at least near the very bottom of the totem pole in the hospital labs I had worked in prior to spending time at ARUP. At ARUP I felt like my opinion mattered, I was encouraged to participate in innovating and making suggestions to improving assays. I also enjoyed the open, academic feel of ARUP. The fact that they share assay improvements and research with competitors is admirable and, in all honesty, exactly how companies in the medical field should behave. Also, when I was there, there were great benefits.

    Cons

Sometimes you feel that people in leadership roles who do not have enough information or do not understand your specific challenges in your lab are making really important decisions that affect your work directly.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I would say that what I mentioned in the cons could be addressed. When making important laboratory decisions, such as moving a lab or combining labs, to involve even the most entry-level staff in the discussions.
