I worked at Astreya Partners full-time (More than a year)

You'll get to work on-site at some of the greatest fortune five hundred companies in the world. They contribute to on-going education. The annual Giants game and a Christmas Party that are so fun you almost forget all the bad stuff. See below...

Pay is below the market for anything other than engineering related positions. Corporate feels so removed and irrelevant as to appear as a whole separate entity from the teams on site. Teams that miraculously have the most talent and potential only to be continually overlooked for promotions due to the overzealous hiring or promotion of barely qualified individuals that simply have the "right" connections. Lots of favoritism and few rewards based on merit. High turnover (Our team was 40% year over year) as employees are met with few growth opportunities and eventually find better offers elsewhere. Lots of corporate rhetoric and near constant "restructuring" but few key results to show. Lots of disingenuous back-patting and "encouragement, but very little incentive is given to employees to improve when the pay, benefits, and growth opportunities are sub-par. Senior management is clueless and tries to install near incompetent middle management from outside a team rather than promoting key performers already on the team. Astreya is dishonest and nearly opaque when it comes to its compensation and contractual policies. For example, I was promoted to a new position and had to wait over 2 months to get a raise without any back-pay. Not very fair considering the new job I had been performing involved considerable more risk and complexity. After a couple months, I was told that I would be compensated for an extra week's pay at the new rate and then was only paid for 2 days. As for hiring other team members, recruiting doesn't seem to be able to find the type of employees that are capable of performing the work that my team does and frequently pressures us to simply accept their candidates so they can get their bonus. Fortunately, your coworkers will make referrals instead and you end up with very talented and capable people. But since they are so under-appreciated they will, unfortunately, be gone before the year is out. Even the senior corporate management is different year to year. This should tell you right away that there is some fundamental problems with the way this company operates. The only plus side is your immediate manager and coworkers will be most likely be amazing until they get fed up and leave. Bottom line: Astreya's clients are amazing and great to work for. Unfortunately the same can't be said for Astreya itself.

    Advice to Management

Spend less time thinking of catchy corporate slogans and more time getting employees better compensation and better benefits. For corporate, stay out of the way of how employees on-site work and keep functioning as a staffing company rather than a managed services company. Offer truly competitive compensation and benefits ( No 401-K matching - seriously?) rather than using your clients perks to sell working at your company. Promote from within based solely on merit rather than nepotism and self-gain.
