Too many show horses with no investment in working horses.

    Pros

Working at Auction.com is not fast paced even though they strive to be disruptive in the game. With that said, there is a great sense of work life balance. Remote work is always an option for the Belmont office (depends on your boss).

    Cons

Initially when I started, I was beyond excited and eager to try something new. We are tasked with applying tech and out-of-the-norm approach to an old school industry of real estate! My excitement quickly dissolved as I dealt with management's indecisiveness and lack of business plan daily. There is a vast pool of talent in Belmont but most are extremely under utilized because management is unorganized and in disarray. No one wants to take ownership which trickles down and across the entire company culture. Bonuses are rarely ever paid at 100%, regardless of Company actuals and individual performance. There are special discretionary bonuses paid to senior management aka show horses. For us working horses, I never once got a broken down explanation as to why I didn't get 100% especially when Auction made quarterly targets. I am an A Player with a reputable background of awards and achievements. What gives? With Tim Morse as the new CEO, it does look promising. I respect him. However, under a year, there has been a huge turnover of top C Level execs; CFO, General Counsel and team, GM, and many many other SVPs hired under a year. All have left to pursue better opportunities. I believe Jeff Frieden (previous CEO as of June 15, 2015) appointed Tim Morse as a last ditch effort. I wish Tim all the best. He is the right man for the job. I can honestly say that I have not learned much while at Auction.com. It is a slow paced environment filled with boring brainless projects. In about 80% of my projects, I find that many people including management does not take ownership in their work. I guess if you don't own it, no one can throw you under the bus (which is the unfortunate norm at Auction.com). Management casually speaks ill of their teams or other colleagues. This unprofessional behavior starts at the top, it naturally trickles down to the rest of the organization. How will Auction.com be disruptive if there is no sense of urgency, ownership of responsibilities and integrity? I am disappointed Auction.com was not what they sold themselves to be. Auction.com has improved from my first day to now but management simply does not get it. You can NOT force culture. It comes naturally if you invest in your people. In return, they will invest in Auction.com.

    Advice to Management

Management is definitely trying and has improved with the opening of the Belmont office. Stop trying so hard to create a "culture". It starts from the top. Practice what you preach. For instance, management should not speak poorly about anyone during meetings. And I mean, anyone. I've heard countless unnecessary comments made from senior management (Jeff Frieden included) about other employees and execs. It's is extremely unprofessional and toxic to morale. There are definitely better ways handle it.
