I have been working at BAMSI part-time (More than a year)
The individuals, other staff, and managers are great for the most part. The job is tough, but it can be fun and rewarding.
The corporate mentality is to bully the staff. They treat the staff like children in many cases. They seem to threaten to terminate employment a lot. They will institute a new policy and tell you that if you don't follow it, you will be terminated. It's no wonder they are a union company. Treatment must improve! There are very few long term employees because of this treatment. Nobody wants to stay after they have been treated poorly.
Advice to Management
The corporate mentality is to bully the staff and this needs to change. Treating the staff like children and threatening to terminate employment are not reasonable methods of managing staff. It's no wonder BAMSI is a union company. Treatment must improve! Good managers motivate their staff. The best managers find out what the staff are already motivated to do, and encourage those things, and motivate them to do the other things well. The house managers seem to understand this, why can’t the people in prorate understand that? There are many hard working, caring long term employees who are looking for other jobs because of the poor treatment they receive from corporate. Nobody wants to stay after they have been treated poorly. It is already a very difficult job. People should be treated with respect. When you tell employees about policies, you should assume they are going to follow them, rather then assume they are not going to follow them and threaten to fire them if they don't. Most of the employees are here because they care about the individuals. It's certainly not for the paycheck or the easy work. The pay is low and the work is hard. They take pride in their work, and deserve respect for what they do. You will continue to have high turn-over and low morale as long as you use bullying as a management tactic. The clients suffer for this and that is what is truly disturbing! They deserve better.
