I worked at BDO USA full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

After my experience I doubt anything could be viewed in a positive light. If I had to say positive things, I would say I was paid until my last day, got regular benefits and was given a permanent cubicle as opposed to a floating desk. The workload was not too bad; busy but not stressful.

    Cons

My nightmare began 8 months into the job. I would interact with partners for different projects. Each one would pull me aside and vent about the other partner. Very awkward. I would be told not to interact with certain groups or hide information from other colleagues and would be threatened with losing my job if I didn't side with them or play these politics. At times, 2 or 3 partners in a meeting would openly gossip and insult other partners behind their back. Lots of racist comments being made. Vulgarities used in every meeting. prejudicial comments about certain ethnic groups. I eventually left the firm because it way too exhausting and demoralizing to work with these people. and it was embarrassing to be at a client with such lowlifes.People in this group are afraid to go talk to HR because they know that the partners will deny behavior and end up firing the employees. Best to just leave and get out of there.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep an eye on different divisions and provide employees a safe route to vent problems. 360 reviews. Upward assessments. Train partners on professionalism. Don't give too much authority or free reign to any one group leader. Focus on culture and walk the talk.
