    I worked at BP full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    £5 per day canteen allowance
    Nice people
    Nice working environment
    Flexible hours
    Big name that can be used to move on to better places
    Average pay for sector

    Cons

    In short there is no advancement for someone who has joined the company in the last few years. The company is in desperate cost-cutting mode, and it's all very sad to see. Nobody gets promotions anymore (outside the rotating 10 or so clique at the top, indeed in a failed attempt to look fair - you'll be constantly reminded of this with internal emails from HR...)

    Honestly, If you're in level G or below, you're better of leaving where you can get paid and valued for what you are worth. Otherwise, it will be a long wait until someone retires (or dies!) for a postion to come up.
    Many old timers are clinging to the sinking ship, safe in the knowledge they will retire on a full final salary pension - or even better still be paid off, redundancy payouts at BP are especially generous.

    Furthermore, the bonus is a joke if you're in grades H or below - a couple of grand if you're lucky, whilst those in G and above will get silly amounts...One team my ars.e.
    There's also never any money for training; more chance of Elvis landing on the Moon than getting sign off for external courses.

    The management tards seem to think cutting training spend and 'staffing' is the best way to become lean and efficient. What fools they are.

    BP is not what it once was.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Stop following the consultants and the HR fools who only think that to grow you need to cut left right and centre... You're killing the golden goose; and the only ones who will be left will be BP old-timers, clinging to their final salary pension pots...When they leave you will have nothing.

    Dudley et al, stop paying yourself obscene bonuses (CEO & CFO took $10m last year), when the company is in genuine need of proper guidance and help. Provide for proper promotion routes for those that are not BP lifers.

    Ditch the BS values and code of conduct, it's not worth the paper its written on. Spend that money on investing in staff, rather than consultants and your mates in the PR industry.
