    Pros

If you are ex-military and have friends within the management and are looking for a job within those managers sphere of influence then you will find job prospects easy sailing.

    Cons

If you are not ex-military and therefore do not have connections to managers within defence you will only find jobs that ex-military don't want because the pay is too poor. So you will find that whatever they promise you in interview and tie them to deadlines on moving up you will find doesn't happen because the better jobs are being constantly cherry picked by ex-military friends of ex-military managers. And their excuses will always change and vary as to why those ex-military friends had to get the job that you were more than qualified! But you not ex-military so there was always a 'better' candidate.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Depends whether they want to upset the status quo - my thoughts are that they will never want to change this method because defence is their bread and butter.
