    Pros

This is a small institution, so you will wear many hats and have the opportunity to collaborate across many different departments. View your time here as a learning experience, both in terms of how to do things and how not to do things, and you'll be able to take away lots of important professional lessons.

    Cons

Staff are over-worked, underpaid, and under-appreciated. Many professional staff are mediocre, and more concerned with putting out the immediate fire in front of them and "just getting by" than in preventing future issues. Some entry-level staff see working here as a stepping stone for bigger and better things (and are thus not fully engaged with their community), while others intend to stay at BW for all of their professional career and have little interest in academic or professional innovation. Students engaging, but overcommitted.

Lack of diversity in professional staff, and of support for diversity. Good old boy network.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

BW is struggling to figure out who it is as an institution, and this is negatively impacting the service it provides to students and its ability to support and develop its faculty staff. An aspirational mission statement ceases to become helpful when it detracts from your ability to serve the students who have traditionally been your bread and butter.

There seems to be no ethical accountability for senior staff members. Serious personal, professional, and institutional problems are swept under the rug to preserve BW's friendly community-oriented facade.
