I worked at Banfield Pet Hospital full-time (More than 5 years)

Better-than average benefits for the industry, lots of PTO. Ability to work at and transfer to other hospitals. Good doctors who genuinely care for their patients.

Too much emphasis on money, to the exclusion of everything else. If you don't enroll at least 35% of overall new clients or non-Optimum Wellness Plan clients onto a Wellness Plan, they don't like it. I hated feeling like a cars salesman every time a client wasn't on a plan, and wanted to get the ridiculous pitch out of the way as quickly as possible. I rarely got off at my scheduled time, and the work-life balance is terrible, especially for the doctors. I felt like the company hinders rather than helps veterinary medicine, due to the bureaucracy, and if not for the dedication that the doctors and staff have for their profession, Banfield would not exist. Many times I saw a doctor trying to help a client out financially, only for them to get called out by the corporation for charging a high enough average per pet seen. Doctors at the hospital I worked at had to see at least 26 pets per day, but because of overbooking it was usually at least 30 per day, sometimes up to 35, with almost no time allotted for the high number of drop-offs. Expect a lot of corporate indoctrination.

    Advice to Management

Focus less on profit and treat the staff, especially the doctors, better. Without them you would not have a job.
