I worked at Banfield Pet Hospital

learn the techniques and stragies of how to squeeze the most money out of the average pet owner. Will help to teach you basic medicine as Banfield does have nice equipment for diagnostics and lab testing. If you are a DVM, the salary is very decent and good perks. Non DVM, salary is the lowest in the nation.

long working hours, poor management with in the locations. Often the emphasis is on lab testing and not the knowledge of the veterinarian. Many of the DVMs employeed are new graduates or not found fit to practice in private practice. As a practice, any DVM is accepatable, even those with shady pasts and found unaccepable elsewhere. Average working day is 9 hours or more, with the DVM often spending 45-50 hours in the hospital. Team members are not trained and lacking in basic medical skills. Turn over is upwards of 60%, so there are no long term team members. Banfield does not want or hire trained para professionals within the field due to pay limitations . Banfield attracts the least trained and least experienced individuals in both the Veterinarian and para professional.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Slow down growth and make an effort to look at the quality of the individual. Middle management should be watching the ethics and management at the locations instead of just looking at the money stats these places bring in. Make the DVMs more accountable for their management of the team members and reward those that stay with the hospital for longer than 3 years.. Hire team members with medical or veterinary knowledge and pay them what they are worth.
