  • Great company, but some positions require lots of hours with a non-existent work/life balance.

    Pros

Bank of America is a very stable and huge company that can offer a great deal of opportunities and flexibility in one's schedule. This company has many great opportunities to transfer to different positions and become involved in various aspects of the banking industry. Bank of America also offers great benefits to its associates. For a while they were offering stock options in a program called "Take Ownership" for employees at a certain level within the company. This program allowed associates to receive a number of stock options for a few years. Although the program was discontinued, while in place, it allowed those employees receiving it to receive a nice bonus when the options were exercised--especially if you exercised them at the right time.

    Cons

One of the main downsides of working at Bank of America, especially in my capacity, as a commissioned employee in the appraisal department, there wasn't much work/life balance. We received work 24 hours 7days a week, including holidays. Unfortunately this did not allow appraisers to much time to spend with family on a regular basis. This occurred nationwide within the company and most appraisers felt that they didn't ever have any free time because they were always working. Once BofA went to a 24 hours/7days a week clock, appraisers had to work excessive hours and had to work every day of the week.

    Advice to Management

I would advise Senior Management to listen to its associates. The company seems to lose good people because they don't feel that their voice is being heard. When associates speak, especially about not having a positive work/life balance, Senior Management should definitely take the time to listen. Not listening causes good people to leave.
