I have been working at Baptist Health (Arkansas) full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Baptist is a good company who's getting better. Recently, they have overcome politics and have made bold moves (specifically technology advancements) that though costly at the front-end, have already and will continue to place Baptist in a position to provide better patient care.

Lower-level management treats you right and fights for you. That's is why I think they have a low turn-over rate.

The mission of Baptist Health is made very clear and presented in daily huddles where the department gathers and spurs each other on. I like taking part in the huddles and I believe it has really changed our culture for the better.

    Cons

As mentioned above, politics have really been an issue, especially with upper management. This hinders advancement in technology and therefore, what I believe is a deficit in patient care.

The pay is not up to par with cost of living. After working there for nearly 10 years, my salary is not near as much as my peers who are in the same field.

They are not flexible when it comes to working from home, especially if you or one of you family members are ill. Much of what we do is on the computer. We can do it anywhere. Unfortunately, management frowns upon working remotely.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue making hard decisions required to make Baptist Health more efficient and streamlined and not use the "it's always been done this way" excuse.

In order stay on top of the market, you will need to continue to invest in technology and do so fast before our competitors do. As far as what technology? You have good management in place in IT to make those decisions. Listen to them.
