I have been working at Barchester Healthcare full-time (Less than a year)
Very supportive and helpful staff especially Nurses, Care Assistant, Training and Admin staff. Senior Management are visible and approachable. Excellent training, the amount of training can be slightly overwhelming during induction period. Great place to start your career in the caring sector. Encouraged to advance your career at Barchester
Very low pay. Pay increases are poor, poor pay incentive to advance in training that is offered. The Care Assistants 12 hour shifts can be physically very demanding with only short breaks allowed. Very high staff turn over. High non-UK staff numbers, while some are excellent nurses and carers and are doing a great job, others have a very different work ethic and have very poor English and conversational skills.
Advice to Management
Pay much more money to retain staff (decent pay rises), thus saving money on overtime, agency staff, recruiting and training. Ensure non-UK staff are fluent in English especially conversational English that Residents will understand.
