I have been working at Barnes & Noble College Bookstores part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

This is a very good first job, or a job that can work with your schedule. It is not very difficult to get or hold a job. There isn't a lot of work that needs to be done except on the couple of weeks in the year that is busy. The work that does need to be done is not difficult. Very flexible scheduling.

    Cons

It is highly seasonal, resulting in many employees being needed for the beginning and end of the semester and during game days. Outside of those periods, few employees are needed resulting in severe hour cuts across the board. There isn't really any advancement in the company at the minimum wage level. These result in a high turnover rate. The items ordered for sale are typically haphazard and not in line with what would actually sell, and are much more expensive, discouraging customers from buying. While it is to be expected for the amount of work, it is only minimum wage.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Figure out what actually sells and order that. Consider giving raises and prioritizing hours to particularly experienced, reliable, or hard-working employees.
