    Pros

When properly backed by management, you can make a direct impact on improving air pollution on the local level. The BAAQMD has the best benefits and pay around (employer-provided pension payment). Supervisors and managers are very understanding with the work/life balance and frequently allow time off for personal reasons or vacation. You will have very friendly and helpful co-workers.

    Cons

The agency is the typical beuracratic government agency with internal office politics for who will be promoted, although promotion is largely based on seniority, long lag times for any action, and frequent inactivity due to second-guessing. Departments frequently contrevene against each other in relation to regulated industry.

    Advice to Management

Set up a seamless system of coordination between departments and tie job security and promotions to job performance rather than seniority.
