Current Employee - Software Developer in Indianapolis, IN

I have been working at Beckman Coulter full-time (more than 10 years)

I've worked in software development at the Indianapolis site for many years and had the pleasure of working on several complex systems that help scientists do life science research that helps improve people's lives. The software director is an outstanding, visionary leader. We are encouraged to use cutting-edge techniques like functional and concurrency-oriented programming (e.g., Scheme and Erlang) and to develop work flows that make the systems easy to use.

The open office environment makes it difficult to concentrate at times. There is a heavy focus on hitting monthly revenue forecasts. Most of the executive management has changed since 2011.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Our software products are much more complex than those of other Danaher operating companies, and they take several years to develop. Moving a developer from one product line to another requires training that's equivalent to an MBA. It's not at all like moving an operator from one production line to another.
