Warehouse had good money but bad management

Former Employee - Warehouse Clerk in Chino, CA

I worked at Best Buy full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The pay for doing their trade-in service was great at $12. It was a social environment and the employees interacted constantly to help each other out or just talk. Better than a fast food job and you got a lot more money for it as well. And in the break room we had a big TV that had a PS3 connected to it.

    Cons

Leadership: Most of the managers had no idea what we were doing even though they were the ones who always dictated the routine. The system for how things were done was always being changed by the General Manager and he would complain if things slowed down while we learned the new system. Then he would forget what the system was we were using and sometimes he would repeat systems he already tried but said they were "new." Also the manager was rude to all the male employees while he creepily flirted with all the pretty girls (if you weren't his type he treated you like you were male). He had the name of each pretty female employee down the first day she started but would call almost all of the male employees by random names or "hey you" and become annoyed if we didn't respond.

Office Culture: We had to go through a metal detector to go into the warehouse, which was understandable but we also had to go through it to clock in&out for lunch and once again through to go into the break room. That go old really fast. You would end up wasting half your lunch just going in and out of the metal detector. One of the managers (Denny) ended up scheduling our lunch as late as he legally could (5 minutes before it became illegal) and chewed out our team because the company got fined for having us clock out too late. He didn't seem to care that it took longer than 5 minutes for a team of 30 people to get past a metal detector during winter when we had to take our jackets, belts and sometimes shoes off. We ended up being told to leave our area earlier (but that would count as the start of your lunch) though the employees just went off the time on their time sheet since he couldn't legally do anything about that.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Maybe try to treat employees like they aren't just robots or pretty things to look at. Having managers with the idea that they can do as they please because they are managers if a horrible thing to have. I understand that the managers aren't there to be your friend but at least treat us like humans. I saw employees go the extra mile and get treated like it still wasn't enough while others wouldn't do anything yet receive praise.

    Doesn't Recommend
    Negative Outlook
    No opinion of CEO
