I have been working at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

BIDMC has great opportunities for recent graduates who would like to ease into their first "real" job. Training was very thorough and there were a lot of other young people with whom I could relate which made the day to day bearable.

    Cons

There is little to no growth opportunity. This is truly a first job where you should learn as much as possible as quickly as possible so that you can leave. The salary is FAR from competitive and the upper management does not seem interested in helping you learn and grow outside of your specific role. Educational research should be about learning, and without this I see no reason to not take an industry job where you will get paid double, have more opportunity for growth, and maybe even learn more.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Communicate with your employees. Let them know you appreciate their work and show your appreciation at least annually. Other opportunities available in this area are far from a secret, so give your employees some incentive to want to stay.
