    Have really tried to stay optimistic, but this place is in turmoil.

    I have been working at Big Heart Pet Brands full-time for more than 10 years


    - Flexible hours, when you can take advantage of them (which is rarely lately, since it's often necessary to work late and then log in once you're home)
    - Ability to leave 2 hours early June - August (another perk many can't take advantage of lately)
    - Jeans are permitted every day
    - Able to bring your dog to the office a couple of times a year (but most are too overworked and bogged down with meetings to enjoy this perk; Natural Balance portion of the company in CA is somehow permitted to bring their dogs to work on a daily basis.)


    - WAY TOO MANY CHANGES. Way, way too many. An acquisition, a divestiture, brand new (inferior) system being built, employees laid off with little notice (only to have the same positions re-posted), existing employees thrown into positions for which they aren't qualified in the least, IT department is losing all of its knowledge resources (which means it can now take weeks for an issue to be resolved that would have previously taken minutes or hours).
    - Processes change from one day to the next, making it difficult to plan or fully wrap your head around any part of your responsibilities. There are very few true process experts remaining, as they were either laid off, made the (smart?) decision to leave, or there is just too much ambiguity to really gain any sort of real expertise. It's a treading water mentality.
    - Company is working with Kenandy to try to build a new ERP system, which has taken over a year with very little progress - something upper management seems generally oblivious to. The minions will be forced to work on a sub-par system that was once supposed to be our new, improved, ideal, perfect, saving-grace system. We're now being told to just build base, bare-bones functionality.
    - No work from home or alternative schedules permitted. Lately, you're lucky if you can use a vacation day. Heck, most of us don't even get to take a lunch hour.
    - Constant rumors of being laid off, selling the company or relocating to Corporate office in San Francisco.
    - No employee discounts, or even coupons, on products.
    - Inconsistent perks across locations. Pittsburgh CSC seems to work longer and harder and is often forced to work late or through lunch to accommodate West Coast schedules, while offices in CA have more relaxed schedules (and don't expect them to ever return the favor and work to accommodate our East Coast schedules)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Not even sure what to suggest. It's so chaotic and stressful at Big Heart and there seems to be no light at the end of the tunnel. Do what you can to boost morale and help employees make it through the next 6 months of the Del Monte TSA and Project Enterprise, and cross your fingers that you'll manage to retain half of the worthwhile talent you have now. When you offer employee events and activities, stop being so concerned that they be restricted to lunch or non-office hours. We get that we're all busy and overworked, but an occasional couple of hours away from our desks could make a world of difference.
