Current Employee - Instrumentation & Controls Engineer in Kansas City, KS

I have been working at Black & Veatch as a contractor (more than an year)

At B & V the work atmosphere is great it's layed back but thing get completed. They have a "flex schedule" with core work hours that is nice when you wnt to beat the traffic or have somethng that requires you to be out of the office. the pay rate for the area is about the same as simular groups. It was nice that with a large company, when assigned to a new job / contract - they would arrange to have the group working on the job into the same general area of the building, this makes for much eaiser communication between diciplines.

It seems as though all employees are on a per getting the next contracted job. I worked there for 2 plus years and was always wanting to know what the next job would be.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I was told for the whole time there that I was going to be brough in as direct hire, but each time the topice was brought up, I was told some thing along the lines of: We would hate to do that then have to lay you off if we don't get the next contract. So, as a contracted engineer there, I was treated for as far as I could tell the same as the direct employees, but not the same benifit package. If your going to bring in contracted employees, make your decission - don't keep them thnking that there is something coming.
