Former Employee - Data Center Engineer in Boston, MA

I worked at BlackRock as a contractor for less than a year

    Pros

    Good work-life balance
    Reasonable workload
Company has a good reputation, which is a good resume builder
    Contractors are well paid

    Cons

Shortsighted management ends contracts with otherwise needed contracted employees to make their budget's look better when proposing new plans. Then management cowardly hides behind excuses like "employee was surfing the internet during downtime" even though salary employees at the same time do the exact same thing. Inevitably, management ends up by hiring new contractors in a few months for the same job.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Burning bridges with contractors is an excellent way endanger your reputation. They are exposed to several areas of key information that your competitors would love to have. All it takes in one person to tell Morgan Stanley where key facilities are located or new strategies and you have a mess to clean up. Treat people with respect and it will be returned. If you don't, be prepared to pay your risk management teams to clean up after the fall out.
