    Pros

    great exposure to technology
benefits were good at the time
    the union

    Cons

too political. if you have a "bad" manager, life is hell, hell, hell. some areas discriminate against whoever is not like the majority in group: if it is mostly female, it's bad to be male, mostly gay it's bad to be gayer than straight acting gays, mostly older it's bad to be younger, etc.

the salary is too low for IT employees. They can easily do better elsewhere.

it is hard to see how you can move from the mailroom to CEO. no clear career path, even though advancement is possible. Many people are stuck at the upper middle grades, however.

    Advice to Management

Pay people what they are worth. Pay to keep good talent and reward the managers who work hard. Some managers really want to do right by the company but feel their hands are tied. Do something about the cronyism because it is not a good look. And get those free health benefits back, if possible.
