Current Contractor - Data Contributions Representative in Hong Kong (Hong Kong)
Current Contractor - Data Contributions Representative in Hong Kong (Hong Kong)

I have been working at Bloomberg L.P. as a contractor (less than a year)

    Pros

    - Free food and drinks
    - Top-notch location with one of the best views (very appreciated when feeling stressed out)
    - Entry-level salary higher than what's out there (a lot higher if perm)
    - Employee benefits are also better than others
    - Smart people around, open discussions on many things, flexible days-off, resources always available
    - Overall relax and chill atmosphere, except when something goes wrong

    Cons

    - Contrary to the other reviews here, workload is uneven and you are expected to look for work yourself (no work means you are risking your job)
    - Communications between colleagues are sometimes poor
    - No clear career path into the company (temp will always be temp, unless promoted
    - My senior is good at what he does but lacks management skills
    - Training is VERY poor, done by the experts of the subject and we are expected to understand right away (if no questions immediately, they expect you understand)
    - Not much politics on my team but I see favoritism as the seniors and my colleagues are from the same city
    - Instructions are very unclear in times
    - Some projects are undertaken to improve our process by a little, but the work involved is tremendous
    - Personally a bad impression to have as I saw my colleague getting fired just 2 weeks after I joined in

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Train the seniors in people's management skills, not just training the new hires just because they are told
    - It's bad image to hire someone to replace someone else who is going to get fired so don't do it
    - When you lay off someone, don't use "change in business plan" as an excuse because everyone knows Bloomberg could have any problem but money

    Recommends
    Neutral Outlook
    No opinion of CEO
