  1.

There are a lot of great people at Brown, and the city of Providence is an outstanding place to live and work.

I worked at Brown University full-time for more than a year

    Pros

There are a lot of dedicated and intelligent people working there. The location is great, with terrific food and culture for such a small city. Some nights and weekends, but overall a good work/life balance is encouraged - we had a fairly flexible schedule as long as you finished your work.

    Cons

It is difficult to advance unless people retire or move to different positions; compensation in academic world not great compared to what you might receive in private sector. At the time that I was there it was difficult economically - wage/hiring freezes led to some poor morale, although that may have improved since.
