    It's 100% employee owned, so you feel like your effort is really changing the bottom line. When your project does well, the company does well, and you get rewarded for that. They have pushed to be a company with $0 in long term debt, and that is an important factor to explain how they can expand when necessary, and maintain employment when times are tough. The company is always pushing for more community involvement. The employees work hard to get projects finished, and will often work together, instead of competing against each other to finish the project. In the field our jobs are ranked the safest in the nation, and we strive to make both our field operations and our office operations safe and productive. The company shares all of it's financial data with it's employee owners. Their built in fitness center, health center, and cafeteria make it easy to stay healthy and productive throughout the day. The management is generally extremely involved in the work we are doing, with most being internal to the company, they've seen the work, they know their stuff. The right people make it to management. And the wrong people are quickly weeded out. Burns & McDonnell is a company of integrity and honor. They care about the employees AND the client.


    They have a fairly old school dress code, men will wear ties and button up shirts, and women will be in business attire. The monetary compensation per hour/salary is a bit below the market, but it offset by the Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP). The hours can be long, and the work is very challenging.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    I'd like to see a better job at cutting divisions that are not performing, beyond simply a slap on the wrist. If they have the wrong strategy then they need to find someone who can, or some way to make it perform.
