I worked at CA Technologies full-time (More than 8 years)
The benefits are pretty good right form day one. For example, PTO goes up to almost 5 weeks at 3-5 years of employment. Release cycles are on the long side which makes deadlines less stressful to obtain.
It a large company and there a lot of red tape and time to get even simple tasks done. If you are the type of coder that likes to crank out cool features you will have a hard time getting them into product, because every team tends to automatically say no and reject new features however small and non-risky. I like an environment that people take the time to weigh the benefit of the new functionality and then are able to give a yes answer, with how much time and impact it will have on a particular project.say
Advice to Management
Pay attention to the work people are doing first hand, and don't rely on hearsay from third parties. Start managing up a bit. When you strictly manage with a top-down philosophy don't relay every nuisance or comment of upper managements feelings to us on the lower rungs. It just stresses everyone out, and is confusing as to what our priorities are as well as figuring out if we are making a direction shift to start updating the resume.
