Hiring disparities it's a huge issue, with Hispanic women being the group least likely to get a permanent job. HR has tried to address this issue with outreach initiatives, but if the agency is unable to retain the Hispanic workforce that is already working for the agency through fellowships and contract positions, these initiatives are pointless.

Also, bullying at the workplace is another issue that keeps coming up internally but nobody seems to want to address. If you are a minority woman, your chances of being bullied are even higher. That is just a well researched fact and was also my experience and that of many other smart women who decided to leave the agency. Don't expect upper management to address this with the bully. In fact, they will find a way to protect the bully and minimize his or her behavior.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

To reduce health disparities, hiring disparities must first be addressed. Bullying behavior should not be acceptable, regardless of the credentials that the bully holds.
