    I worked at CHEO

    Pros

Staff, although overworked, try to do the best they can.
New management is coming in, so there may be hope for the future.

    Cons

Previous management pitted staff against each other, which backfired. It became difficult to recruit new people, so that when people left, no new recruits wanted to join, leaving the remaining staff even more overworked. Morale plummeted.
Talented people left (or were fired) and it will take quite a while for the institutional reputation to be rebuilt.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Leading a team of professionals takes a special attitude (especially mutual respect) and a collegial coaching approach. This was totally lacking. Instead there was a culture of fear, back-stabbing, silence and manipulation (although people finally wised up to what was going on).
